Israeli fence project close to Jordanian borders to begin

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel would begin immediate construction on a fence in its eastern border with Jordan between Eilat and Timna settlements, which would eventually reach all the way north to the Golan Heights.
During a weekly cabinet session, Netanyahu added "we will surround Israel with a security and barrier fence," adding that "Israel must not be flooded with infiltrators, migrant workers, and terrorists." Israeli radio said that the length of the fence is estimated to be 30 kilometers (19 miles) long, nearly an eighth of the 230 kilometer (143 mile) long border between Israel and Jordan, adding a sum of USD 64 million has been allocated for the project. The fence on Israel's eastern border is being designed with the aim of having a similar effect in preventing the entrance of infiltrators similar to the fence on Israel's southern border with the Sinai Peninsula, the Israeli radio added.
