Qatar- Katara holds tests ahead of dhow voyage


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Beaches Department at Katara € the Cultural Village has completed a number of tests for applicants as part of its preparations for the upcoming Fath Al Khair 2 voyage.
Sixteen applicants have been finalised for the voyage to India, which is scheduled to launch in October, following the theoretical test, according to the Fath Al Khair 2 organising committee.
Earlier, 34 applicants had cleared the fitness test. A medical examination has also been held.
After leaving the Katara beach, the dhow will arrive at Sur, Oman on October 15. It is scheduled to reach India on October 25.
During the return trip, it will reach Muscat, Oman on November 15 before arriving in Doha on November 17, coinciding with the launch of the fifth Traditional Dhows Festival at Katara. The first Fath Al Khair voyage was launched under the patronage of HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani on December 22, 2013, from the Katara beach with 44 Qatari sailors.
The dhow travelled to various ports in the Gulf countries, stopping at Kuwait City (Kuwait), Dammam (Saudi Arabia), Muharraq (Bahrain), Khasb (Oman) and Abu Dhabi (UAE), before returning to Doha on December 18 to celebrate Qatar National Day.
