Qatar- Countdown for World Boxing Ch&ionships begins

DOHA: Qatar Boxing Federation (QBF) is set to mark the 30-day countdown to next month’s 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships by taking the message of the event around the country starting today.

More than 260 boxers representing some 70 countries will feature at the October 5-15 event set to take place at the state-of-the-art Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena.

The high profile event will see high quality standards in the TV production of the boxing bouts and will be beamed to more than 60 countries around the world by live TV and social media feeds QBF President Yousuf Ali Al Kazim said while talking to reporters here yesterday.

“Now we have reached the last month before the event kicks off. We will target all residents in the country - whether Qataris or residents from different communities - and take our message forward to the sports fans in the country.”

Al Kazim added: “In the next 30 days we hope to make sure the message has been well received by sports fans in Qatar and the region. Our message will delivered via TV newspapers and by using social media tools.”

“During the last few weeks we approached embassies in Doha. Our message was well received” Al Kazim said.

This week QBF received AIBA officials who also met with LOC members heading various committees.

The AIBA and LOC meetings centered around matters relating to event planning broadcast marketing and hospitality sectors.

“It has been a very interesting journey for us ever since we won the rights to host the event” Al Kazim said.

“We made a promise to delivering a great event and now we are almost at the last stretch of our promise. We look forward to taking our message to sports fans in Qatar” he added.

The QBF President said the 30-day countdown would be key to the entire promotional campaign which will end just 10 days before the event starts on October 5.

“We know that the 30-countdown represent an important phase in our promotional campaign. This is a huge opportunity for this sport to reach out to new audiences in this country and region” Al Kazim said.

“A month ago I said when the championship time comes around we will be ready with our hotels accommodation for athletes and officials coming to Qatar” Al Kazim said.

“I also said the transport aspect also would have reached full readiness. I can safely say we are moving in the right direction with our preparedness for the event” Al Kazim said.
