Qatar- 16 clear test for Fath Al Kheir voyage


(MENAFN- The Peninsula)Thirty-four applicants took the theatrical test for Fath Al Kheir journey 2 to India.

DOHA: As part of preparations to launch the Fath Al Kheir journey 2 to India the beach department at the cultural Village Foundation — Katara has completed the theatrical test for 34 applicants after finalising the physical tests that started in August.

Inspired by Qatar’s maritime heritage the sea voyage by Fath Al Kheir will begin on October 1 and return on the day of launching the fourth edition of the Traditional Dhow Festival.

In an attempt to revive the ancestral legacy of roaming the world on traditional dhows sailors at this year’s journey will start from Katara beach. Later they will stop by Sur Port in Oman prior to reaching India and going back to Muscat and then reach Doha on November 17 to witness the start of the fourth edition of Traditional Dhow Festival.

According the organising committee of Fath al Kheir journey 2 to India 34 applicants have passed the physical test out of which 16 contestants will sail on the Fath Al Kheir as they passed the theatrical test.

The first journey of Fath Al Kheir was launched under the patronage of the Father Emir

H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani on December 22 2013 from Katara Beach with 44 Qatari sailors. The journey went to the ports of other Gulf countries docking in Kuwait City Dammam Saudi Arabia Muharraq Bahrain Khasb Oman and Abu Dhabi UAE reaching its final destination in Doha on December 18 to celebrate Qatar National Day.

The passion of Qataris for the sea and its voyages goes back to the dawn of history.

Their sea tours took off to the ports of the Arabian Gulf India and Zanzibar. Such tours have influenced the life of Qataris and have turned into a distinctive feature of the Qatari society.
