(MENAFN- Arab News) JEDDAH: The first candidate running for the municipal council in the district of Al-Suwaidara located 30 km east of Madinah has withdrawn his name from the race.
The candidate had submitted his paperwork for candidacy last week in the 7th circuit at center number 448.
It remains unknown at this time what compelled the candidate to withdraw his name.
Khaled Al-Metaab coordinator of the local council in Madinah said the council received the candidate's papers at the start of the registration phase last Saturday but the candidate soon after requested to withdraw.
He said the local council is not responsible nor concerned with the reasons for the withdrawal and is only concerned with the registration of information.
Jadea Al-Qahtani head of the executive committee for municipal councils confirmed that this is the first case of withdrawal from this year's electoral race.
He said the withdrawal from the election does not prohibit the individual to vote in the elections and that he or she can even register as a candidate once again.
Meanwhile the General Secretariat for the elections revealed the means and mechanisms of determining and eliminating voters and candidates in conflict with registration requirements.
It said the electronic link with the National Information Center at the Ministry of Interior will serve as the source of information about all voters in order to compare and ensure the requirements are met by all individuals. Voters who do not meet requirements will be immediately dropped and prohibited from taking part in the elections.
