Qatar- SEC issues new guidelines for Independent Schools staff

DOHA: The Supreme Education Council (SEC) has issued fresh guidelines for members of teaching and non-teaching staff of Independent Schools and has retained the ban on teachers giving private tuition.

A teacher found giving private tuition could lose his or her job. Also it is understood that there are smoking zones in Independent Schools so teachers and administrative staff found smoking elsewhere in the school could attract fines.

One-day salary is to be deducted if a staffer is found smoking in a wrong place once. Likewise if he or she is found smoking for the second and third time in unauthorized areas in the school two and three days’ salary is to be deducted.

The employee could lose his or her job if caught smoking in an undesignated area in the school for the fourth time. The guidelines are for the fresh school year (2015-16) that begins from Sunday local Arabic daily Al Raya reports.

Punishments for violating rules include issuance of warning salary deduction as said earlier in the report and removal from service. The employee could be removed from the service if he or she produces fake documents damages property of the school and endanger the safety and security of the premises of a school.

Breaches that could lead to removal of a staffer from his or her job include failure to perform duty properly. An employee found drunk on duty assaulting the director of the school or parents and guardians of students helping students in cheating in examinations and wrongly using and disclosing personal information of students.
