(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Nasser Judeh, attended a meeting of the German Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) parliamentary group to discuss regional and international developments.
The meeting, which was held in the presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, covered Jordan's stances towards various regional and international challenges, mainly terrorism and extremism. Chairman of the CDU/CSU Group Volker Kauder commended Jordan's regional role, stressing Jordanian- German ties as solid.
He also underlined the importance of King Abdullah II's recent visit to Germany in promoting bilateral relations.
On the other hand, Judeh held talks in Berlin with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on bilateral relations and developments in the Middle East.
The meeting also dealt with efforts to fight extremist thought and terrorism.
Judeh outlined burdens being borne by Jordan as a result of hosting more than 1.6 million Syrian refugees, calling on the international community to increase its support to the Kingdom to enable it to continue its humanitarian role towards the refugees.
On the Palestinian issue, Judeh stressed the importance of the German role in supporting peace efforts, noting the importance of a time-lined peace talks leading to an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the international terms of reference as well as the Arab Peace Initiative.
With regards to the nuclear agreement signed between Iran and the P5+1 powers, Judeh said that Jordan has constantly supported a diplomatic and peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue, expressing hope that the deal would be an important step for further solutions over controversies in the Middle East.
Steinmeier emphasized the importance of the Jordanian-German partnership in various fields, voicing his country's keenness on supporting Jordan's efforts to realize peace and stability in the region.
