Over 500000 visit Dhofar during khareef season

The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI)figures show that there has been a 21 per cent increase in the number of visitors toDhofarduring thekhareefseason this year as compared to the same period last year.

As many as 500928 tourists visited Dhofar from June 21 to August 30 this year as compared to 415727 during the same period last year. Statistics show that Omanis constituted 74 per cent of the total visitors with 371065 an increase of 17.3 per cent compared to the same period last year.

UAE came second with 50612 tourists an increase of 6.1 per cent.

As many as 18133 tourists from Saudi Arabia visited Dhofar a rise of 45.1 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Visitors from Bahrain stood at 3762 followed by Qatar (3714) and Kuwait (2686).

Meanwhile Asians (38543) constituted eight per cent of the total visitors to Dhofar while visitors from other Arab countries stood at 9388.

The number of European visitors stood at 1746 and visitors from American countries reached 775.

Visitors from African and Oceanian countries stood at 278 and 171 respectively.

Data collection for khareef visitors will be conducted till September 21.
