Qatar- Three arrested for electric cable theft from work site

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Three Asian workers of a prominent electrical contracting firm were arrested for stealing underground electrical cables from their work site and selling them to a scrap goods business.
Sources told Gulf Times that the incident took place at a work site of the company in Ain Khalid area a few days ago.
Among those held included a supervisor who was in-charge of the cable laying work of the project.
When the company's officials realised that there were a series of incidents, involving theft of the cables at the said site in recent months, they reportedly deployed other workers in the proximity of the site without the knowledge of the work supervisor and thereafter became aware of the modus operandi of those involved in the thefts.
It was found that the thefts were taking place towards the end of the morning working hours, when outsiders were arriving at the work site at regular intervals in pick-up vans and when the workers were readying to leave the place.
The three were caught handing over the cables to the scrap dealers.
After being held, the trio admitted to stealing the cables and selling them to scrap dealers at a price much lower than the market price.
The booty was shared between the three with the supervisor taking a major chunk, while the other two got paltry sums. The three would be produced at a local court soon, it is learnt.
A source told Gulf Times that cables worth more than QR150,000 were missing from the company's sites for several years and the involvement of more people are suspected.
