Doha Institute to host MEEA conference

DOHA: The School of Public Administration and Development Economics of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) is hosting the Middle East Economic Association (MEEA) Fifteenth International Annual Conference from March 23-25 2016.

“The importance of this conference stems from the fact that it will be held for the first time in the State of Qatar represented by the Doha Institute to discuss economic issues of vital significance to the Middle East region” said Professor Hassan Aly Dean of the School of Public Administration and Development at DI.

Dean Aly also indicated that in accordance with the practices that the Middle East Economic Association fosters the conference Entitled “The Impact of Oil Prices on the Economic Growth and Development in the MENA countries” will be specialized and scientific whereby academically peer refereed studies will be presented.

This annual conference to be held in Doha addresses a number of very timely and hot issues . Dean Aly who is also president of MEEA explained “We will be discussing the impact of oil shocks on economic growth in the MENA region the way economic development reacts to oil prices under different market conditions the current and future states of the oil shale industry the impact of oil price drops on MENA’s financial markets and exchange rates to name of few”

The conference welcomes submissions related but not limited to the primary theme. Scientific studies related to other topics such as labor money and banking trade and environment concerning the MENA region are also encouraged.

“The conference seeks to enrich the academic research in the field of energy and economics which would in turn promote positive discussion on economies of the the arab world GCC countries and Qatarin particular” said Dean Aly.

The conference is expecting close to 200 participants from inside and outside Qatar in addition to graduate students from all over the world who are conducting research on these topics

Scholars academics experts and students of Middle East economics from around the world are now invited to submit abstracts to research papers to be presented at the conference by Saturday October 10 2015.

The DI is an independent institute for learning and research based in Doha in the fields of social sciences humanities public administration and development economics. Programs of study are offered at the master's degree level in its two schools: the School of Social Sciences and Humanities and the School of Public Administration and Development Economics. Designated as a not-for-profit private institution the DI operates exclusively for educational research and public service purposes.

The MEEA is a private non-profit non-political organization of scholars interested in the study of the economies and economics of the Middle East. The geographical term "Middle East" is used in its widest usage. Its objectives are the promotion of high standard scholarship the facilitation of communication among scholars through meetings and publications and the promotion of cooperation among persons and organizations committed to the objectives of MEEA.
