S. Korea, China Presidents Held Summit in Beijing


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) South Korea's President Park Geun-hye held a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Wednesday.

During the summit, the two leaders discussed their countries' bilateral ties, Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia affairs as well as issues that Seoul, Beijing and Tokyo share an interest in.

Park and Xi both assessed that their countries saw development in diverse areas in the past two-and-a-half years since the launch of their respective governments. They also shared views on ways to continuously advance South Korea and China's strategic partnership, according to Korea's (KBS WORLD) website.

In particular, they are said to have discussed China's role in blocking North Korea from taking part in further provocations, in resolving the North's nuclear issue and in the unification of the two Koreas. Park and Xi also discussed Park's Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative and Eurasia Initiative as well as China's One Belt, One Road initiative and Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank.

After the luncheon, Park is set to hold talks with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and discuss ways for Seoul and Beijing to promote cooperation, including a bilateral free trade agreement.
