Militant attack kills 3 policemen in N. Pakistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) At least three policemen were killed and six others wounded in an attack by militants on a police vehicle in Pakistan's northern Peshawar city on Wednesday, said officials.
A senior police official, SSP Operations Mian Saeed in a statement said that a contingent of police was carrying out a search operation in Urmarh area of the city when militants suddenly opened fire at their van.
He confirmed that three cops were killed and six others sustained injuries in the ambush. The policemen responded with firing and the crossfire lasted for almost half an hour killing one attacker, he added. Security forces have cordoned off the area and a search operation went underway to apprehend the culprits.
The attack on the police van came at a time when Pakistan military is undergoing the final phase of the comprehensive military operation launched against the foreign and local militants in the north tribal area of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan.
