Turkey: PKK killed, policeman injured in Batman clash


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) member was killed and a police officer was injured in an exchange of fire in southeastern Batman province Tuesday, official sources said.

According to the sources, PKK members had opened fire on a police car in Turkey's Batman province, leaving a deputy police chief injured. Police responded and the resulting exchange of fire killed a militant; police also captured another.

Police were looking for another suspect involved in the incident.

More than 60 Turkish police personnel and soldiers have lost their lives in renewed violence between the Turkish state and the PKK since late June.

The PKK is deemed a terrorist organization in Turkey, the U.S. and EU.
