UAE- 24 year old jailed for possessing drugs in Fujairah
(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)A Fujairah court has sentenced a GCC citizen to four years in jail for consuming hashish. Upholding a lower court's verdict the Fujairah Court of Appeals on Tuesday also ordered the confiscation of the drugs recovered from the defendant.
According to court records the police were tipped off that the 24-year-old defendant possessed hashish. On spotting the accused driving a police team signalled him to pull over. The police recovered the hashish from his vehicle. During interrogation he confessed he possessed the hashish for personal use. Lab tests revealed he consumed the drug. In another case the court sentenced a GCC national to one month in jail for possessing tramadol pills. A fine of Dh20000 slapped on him by a lower court was however reduced to Dh5000. The defendant was also found guilty of consuming some narcotic pills while outside the country. Salah Al Deberky
