Qatar- Improving skills of teachers top priority: Minister


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council H E Dr Mohammad bin Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi said yesterday that enhancing the skills of teachers and improving students' academic abilities will be top priorities for the coming year.


Minister added that the two goals were based on the directives of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The minister was speaking at a meeting held at the Four Seasons Hotel for holders of Independent School permits.

The meeting reviewed a number of initiatives and policies set to be implemented in the new academic year.

The Minister also reviewed more than 70 initiatives implemented by the ministry in previous years. Some of those initiatives included improving the students' skills in languages and Math.

Another initiative was the ministry's strategy for the coming seven years and increasing the number of Independent Schools.

The minister noted that new initiative will include establishing an office for teachers' affairs, charged with improving the skillset of teachers and attracting highly-skilled teachers to Qatari schools.
