Saudi- Short circuit caused Aramco fire 3 Canadians among dead

(MENAFN- Arab News) ALKHOBAR: A short circuit involving a transformer in the basement of the residential complex of Saudi Aramco resulted in the fire on Sunday according to a preliminary probe.
The blaze continued for over five hours in the residential towers.
The fire had spread to the vehicles in the basement resulting in 35 of the 130 burning out. This led it spreading to the upper floors of the building.
The Civil Defense said 39 firefighting teams 20 rescue teams and ambulances carried out the operation.
The fire killed 10 people and left 259 injured. Among them five have been identified. Three of them were Canadians of Asian origin a Pakistani and a Nigerian woman.
Diana Khaddaj a spokeswoman for Canada's Foreign Affairs Department said consular officers in Riyadh are in touch with the Saudi authorities 'to gather additional information and are providing consular assistance to those affected...'
A total of 179 people who were injured have been discharged from local hospitals. However 80 people of various nationalities are still undergoing treatment.
The relief exercise was monitored and supported by Eastern Province Gov. Prince Saud bin Naif. Saudi Aramco Chief Executive Officer Amin H. Nasser visited the injured people in Alkhobar on Sunday evening.
