Unemployment rate drops in EU


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The EU unemployment rate was 9.5 percent in July, down from 9.6 percent in June, and from 10.2 percent in July 2014.
This is the lowest rate recorded in the EU since June 2011, according to figures published Tuesday by Eurostat, the EU statistical office.
The euro area unemployment rate was 10.9 percent in July, down from 11.1 percent in June, and from 11.6 percent in July 2014. This is the lowest rate recorded in the euro area since February 2012, it noted.
Eurostat estimated that 23.06 million men and women in the EU, of whom 17.53 million in the euro area, were unemployed in July. Compared with June, the number of persons unemployed decreased by 232 , 000 in the EU and by 213 , 000 in the euro area. Compared with July 2014, unemployment fell by 1.64 million in the EU and by 1.11 million in the euro area.
