EU voices concern over raid on media group in Turkey


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The EU expressed concern Tuesday over the police raids carried out on the offices of Koza Ipek media group in Ankara this morning.
"We are concerned not only by the operation on companies linked to the Koza group for suspicion of financing of terrorism , but also for example recent arrest of the Vice News journalists under terrorism-related charges," EU spokesperson for foreign affairs, Maja Kocijancic, told a news conference.
"Any country negotiating EU accession needs to guarantee the respect of human rights including freedom of expression in line with the EU convention of human rights," she added.
The Turkish dailies Bugun and Millet, TV stations Bugun TV and Kanalturk are run by the Ipek Media Group.
Two British reporters and a translator were formally charged by a Turkish court on Monday with "working on behalf of a terrorist organisation".
According to media reports, Vice News journalists Jake Hanrahan and Philip Pendlebury were detained by Turkish police while they were filming in the south-east region of Diyarbakir on Thursday.
