Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) medical training centre has organised two lectures on first aid in cooperation with partners under QRCS’s strong relations with peer organisations to develop society as a whole.

The first lecture was held at the International Center for Leadership Development (ICLD) for 25 students — aged between 8 and 16 — who attended the centre’s leader development camp.

The lecture covered several topics including an introduction to first aid and its techniques as an important life-saving skill for both leaders and the public.

QRCS is playing its role in the Qatari society to support state bodies and work towards the goals of Qatar National

Vision 2030.

One of QRCS’s major mandates locally is medical services in light of its mission of improving the lives of vulnerable people by mobilising the power of humanity and developing the individual in all aspects particularly in terms of health and safety.

Among the health services conducted by QRCS for all segments of society are health education lectures and training courses to ensure better handling of injuries and emergencies of oneself and others.

During the lecture the students learnt the correct way to contact the ambulance to describe the case and follow the instructions till the arrival of medics and the practice of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for youngsters and adults. They were also trained in the basic steps of assessing the situation identifying what kind of help to offer depending on the degrees of consciousness and dealing with cases of fainting.

Held in cooperation with Qatar Charity’s (QC) Center for Community Development the second lecture was attended by 32 students and administrative staff who participated in the centre’s cultural and sports summer camp. In the lecture participants were told about some cases that require first-aid prior to medical assistance such as burn wound bleeding nosebleed sprain fracture drowning suffocation allergy and sun stroke.

Some mistakes generally committed in dealing with accident victims were explained in detail. Real-world experiences were discussed to show how first-aid is mainly a humanitarian action designed to help an injured person alleviate his/her pain and control complications until medical specialists are available.

After the lectures the students were enthusiastic to volunteer for QRCS. The adult staff asked questions and were interested in seeking more information. They said they were willing to join more first aid training courses appreciating QRCS’s contributions to

the society.
