Five more jailed Palestinians declare hunger strike

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) The Israel Prison Service on Monday announced that five Palestinian prisoners had begun an open-ended hunger strike to protest their continued custody under Israel's "administrative detention" policy.
"Five Palestinian prisoners have begun a hunger strike in southern Israel's Negev Prison," Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth quoted security sources as saying.

Qadura Fares, head of the Palestinian Prisoners' Society, an NGO, confirmed to Anadolu Agency that five Palestinian prisoners had begun an open-ended hunger strike on Sunday.

Israel's policy of "administrative detention" allows prison authorities to hold suspects without charge or trial for renewable periods.

According to official Palestinian figures, over 6,500 Palestinian detainees are currently languishing in jail throughout the self-proclaimed Jewish state.
