QMIC traffic dept in deal to boost safety


(MENAFN- The Peninsula)Director General of the Traffic Department Brig Muhammad Saad Al Kharji and the Executive Director and CEO of QMIC Dr Adnan Abu-Dayya signing the agreement at the traffic headquarters in Doha.

Doha: Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC) signed a letter of Intent (LOI) with the General Directorate of Traffic (Muroor) for a partnership in the fields of strategic traffic studies accident prevention and public safety awareness on August 20.

The agreement was signed by the Director General of the Traffic Department Brig Muhammad Saad Al Kharji and the Executive Director and CEO of QMIC Dr Adnan Abu-Dayya at the traffic headquarters.

The letter of intent seeks to establish a high-level framework of cooperation between the two entities to carry out a number of activities that aim to save lives on Qatar’s roads improve safety minimise travel time and improve quality of life by alleviating traffic congestion through leveraging cost effective advanced technology.

“Areas of cooperation include among others conducting traffic studies on specific Doha roads using QMIC’s Masarak to obtain factual data concerning the movement of vehicles at selected points to help authorities predict future traffic volumes and evaluate project alternatives in reducing congestion” said Dr Adnan Abu-Dayya Executive Director and CEO of QMIC.

QMIC will also integrate new feature in its Masarak iTraffic application for reporting accidents to Muroor Dr Adnan Abu-Dayya added.

“We are very excited about leveraging QMIC’s Masarak system to increase our knowledge about the traffic flow in Doha and to increase safety on the roads” Brig Al Kharji said.

Muroor is prepared to form a work team in coordination with QMIC to set up a control centre at Muroor headquarters to view live traffic feed and accidents on the roads Brig Al Kharji added.

In addition the two parties have agreed to meet regularly and conduct safety awareness workshops and campaigns to the public.

The Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC) is the first independent innovations centre in the region with a focus on developing and deploying smart mobility systems and services. QMIC’s main goal is to use locally engineered innovations and knowledge to create technology-based industries that address regional challenges and grow with mega projects in Qatar and the region.
