(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Shops and other business establishments at Al Maha Centre on Salwa Road resumed operations at 1.30pm on Sunday after electricity was restored, a number of employees told Gulf Times.
Jarir Bookstore, Fifty One East, and Darwish Holding were among the establishments forced to close on Saturday after electricity was cut off to some of the buildings in the area when the interior ceiling of Ramez shopping centre collapsed around 11am.
Though eateries and restaurants near Ramez resumed operations on Sunday, few people were seen visiting these establishments even during peak hours. "We hope the customers will return very soon," said one of the waiters.
The service road going to the shopping strip has been opened to motorists but police are continuously monitoring the place.
At least two Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) ambulances, two fire tenders from the Civil Defence and three police vehicles were seen in the area around 6.30pm Sunday.
A total of 18 people were injured in the incident, a source at HMC said. This was also confirmed by Qatar's Ministry of Interior on its Twitter page. The posting said: "Partial collapse of the roof inside a supermarket on Salwa Road, today. Civil Defence evacuated store without serious injury or death."
