FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

An evocative account of love turmoil and faith.

August 20 2015 – Denver CO and Henderson KY – Set against the backdrop of the late seventies and eighties My Life As Traci explores the challenges the author faced as an African-American girl growing up in a small Kentucky town. Traci Inez Rapier’s memoir published by Outskirts Press is both honest and inspiring.

From the moment she was born Traci’s ordinary life has been filled with extraordinary situations. As an African-American growing up in Kentucky she faced more than her share of social challenges racial issues financial struggles and complicated family dynamics. Traci divided her childhood between her mother and stepfather in a town of 400 people and a father and his new wife who despised her in Danville Illinois. She went through school during a time when society was struggling to open up racially and when everything from music to AIDS was influencing her worldview. She watched a friend die of AIDS and came out of it with an understanding of life that has served her well in the healthcare industry.

“The things I went through created a sense of compassion in me that prompted others to seek my advice my help or my place as a peacemaker. That is when I wasn’t fighting to protect myself” she explains.

My Life As Traci documents the trials and triumphs of a remarkable African-American woman bringing readers into the spirit of the time and inviting them into her life. Traci’s memoir is always hopeful but never shy about detailing traumatic moments and it carefully documents the development of her inner world—first through faith in her parents then in the faith of her friendships and finally in the faith of her spiritual beliefs.

“I am a Christian and felt led by God to write about my life before I was born again. I hope that my story is a blessing to all who read it. May it give you confidence that all things are possible.”
