Egypt, Jordan to enhance bilateral trade

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Egyptian Trade and Industry Minister, Mounir Abdel Nour, pledged that his country would remove impediments to better commercial relations with Jordan, the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) said in a statement on Saturday.

The minister said at a meeting with a Jordanian economic delegation representing various business sectors that Egypt would address any hindrances in the two countries' economic ties, referring to Egypt's tacit approval of a request by the team to set up a permanent fair for Jordanian products in Cairo.

Abdel Nour also urged Jordan's private sector to increase its economic engagement with its Egyptian peers in a wide range of sectors.

ACC president Issa Murad, who headed the Jordanian team, pointed to what he termed "promising prospects" for economic cooperation with the Egyptian side, noting that the door is open for increasing the trade volume, currently standing at $600 million annually.

"The current level of trade exchange does not match the depth of historical relations between the two countries", added Murad.

The Cairo meeting culminated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding under which the two countries will establish a joint executive committee to streamline trade exchange and address various challenges and report back to the two countries' governments.
