UAE- ERC launches caign to aid 10 million Yemeni people

ABU DHABI 29th August 2015 (WAM) - The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has launched a donation campaign that includes a telethon to raise funds to help 10 million Yemeni citizens affected by the current crisis there.

The campaign is launched in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum orders of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and the follow up of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the ERC.

ERC Secretary general Dr. Mohammed Atiq Al Falahi said in a press conference today that the campaign dubbed "For You Yemen" will include a telethon next Friday on all major television stations to raise funds for the campaign.

ERC is already operating relief programmes in Yemen which helped 124000 families and more than 620000 people. According to Al Falahi the ERC managed to distribute 15000 tonnes of relief materials dispatched by ships and land convoys in addition to rehabilitation of power stations.

Al Falahi also announced 200 stations will be deployed across the country to collect cash and material donations including 171 in Abu Dhabi city 47 in Bani Yas 45 in Al Ain 11 in Dubai 19 in Sharjah 12 in Fujairah 6 in Ras al-Khaimah 3 in Umm al-Qaiwain and 2 in Ajman.

Donations can also be sent to the campaign's bank accounts in Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Dubai Islamic Bank Sharjah Islamic Bank as well as via text messages ERC website and social media accounts.
