Oman- Shrimp fishing season begins on September 1

The three-month shrimp fishing season will begin on September 1. As many as 12 varieties of shrimps have been recorded in Omani waters.

The sultanate's total shrimp production in 2014 from artisanal fishing and aquaculture stood at 1416 tonnes including 1139 tonnes from non-traditional fishing. Of the total catch 94 per cent was registered in Al Wusta while another four per cent was recorded in South Sharqiyah governorate.

Last year the sultanate exported 437 tonnes of shrimps including 378 tonnes to GCC countries. Of the total export to GCC countries 363 tonnes were exported to UAE.
