Saudi- Sign of social decline

(MENAFN- Arab News) I read with interest the article 'American intelligence put to test' (Aug. 28) by Jamal Doumani. The popularity of Donald Trump in the ongoing presidential race in the United States is a sign of moral decay and should send alarm bells ringing around the world. It is normal to see a few candidates issue controversial statements but it is a big reason to worry if those candidates gain popularity among the masses.
We cannot deny the fact that the Bush era proved to be a defining period in the history of the US and the rest of the world. Policies of the Bush era changed the overall dynamics of the world and transformed the American society for good. The US was known for its tolerance. Keeping in view Donald Trump's popularity it seems the American society has developed xenophobic tendencies which will not bode well for the country which was not very long ago called the land of opportunities. The Americans should realize that the US' strength lies in its diversity and multiculturalism. The path on which its politicians are steering the country to will only lead to disaster. Trump should never get the chance to enter the White House as it will prove to be catastrophic not only for the US but for the entire world. Tanvir Irshad Riyadh
