Qatar- Call for campaign against mobile phone pictures

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The practice of people taking pictures of individuals, including young girls, in public places and posting on social networking sites is not liked by many in Qatar.

Most people do it to get "liked" by people and increase the numbers of their followers, say critics.

And many consider it a breach of people's privacy and want authorities to curb the phenomenon and take legal action against violators.

Some people take photos of young girls at wedding functions and in shopping centres and of road accidents and post them on social networking sites, Al Raya reports.

Clicking photos in commercial centres and other public places are illegal but due to lack of enough monitoring, the privacy of the people is being violated, many people interviewed by the daily said.

People's keenness to get "liked" on social networking sites motivate them to breach public privacy by taking pictures without the subject's knowledge, said Dr Moza Al Malki, a famous psychologist.

Unfortunately, the trend is catching on, she said.

"I wonder how people take the pictures of the injured and dead in road accidents. They should rather help them by providing first aid instead of clicking pictures," she said.

Al Malki demanded severe action against those violating people's privacy.

A famous cleric, Dr Mohammad Hasan Al Muraikhi, said breaching people's privacy by clicking their pictures is forbidden in Islam. He said a campaign should be launched to educate people about the negative impact of the practice.
