Iraqi premier orders more access to fortified Green Zone for citizens
(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Baghdad Dhu-AlQa'dah 13 1436 Aug 28 2015 SPA -- In a statement released by his office on Friday the Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has ordered security forces to give more access to Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone
to Iriaqi citizens dpa reported.
The Green Zone is home to the embassies of the United States and many
European countries. It is an area carved out of central Baghdad by US
forces after their invasion of Iraq in 2003.
Al-Abadi also ordered security officials to open up streets in the
capital and other cities that have been closed off by "VIPs" and
political parties.
