Qatar- QNL's 'Back to School' event ignites creative spark in kids

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A large number of children participated in the first 'Back to School Children's Event' yesterday aimed at enhancing their art skills and creativity through various activities.
Organised by the Qatar National Library (QNL), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, the event engaged children of various ages in pencil case-making and a number of games at the Education City Clubhouse.
The participants also enjoyed the story-telling sessions and many spent their time doing art activities such as colouring and drawing mentored by QNL staff.
Noor Mohamed, information services librarian for children's services, told reporters that they had organised a lot of QNL activities but this is the first time they launched an event for children.
"We want to develop children's skills, abilities and creativity with their families through these sessions," she said.
QNL also distributed reading materials and selected online resources suitable for children and young adults.
These includes video story books (BookFlix) described as an interactive literacy resource that builds a love of reading for pre-kindergarten to grade 3; Edutechnoz database is packed more than 150 games designed according to the Qatar Supreme Education Council's standards; Grolier online provides factual information on a wide array of topics in various formats such as encyclopaedias, dictionaries, interactive maps, world newspapers, informal video clips, among others; and others.
The event was part of Qatar Foundation's mission to foster an engaged, progressive society. "By sharing valuable information and cultivating creativity, QNL continues to support Qatar Foundation's commitment to unlock human potential for future generations," said Gihan Mohsen Baraka, head of Library Relations and Communications at QNL. "It does this by providing access to a wealth of resources through its exceptional selection of online databases, regular training programmes, and social engagement initiatives."
"The aim of the 'Back to School' event was to bring together the children of Qatar and give them an opportunity to develop their creative abilities and skills with their families," said Carol Mitchell, head of Children's Services at QNL.
The event was one of many other social events taking place at Education City that QNL organises and participates in year-round to spread knowledge, nurture imagination, cultivate creativity, and preserve the nation's heritage for the future.
In addition to organising and partnering in local community events, QNL also participates in regional initiatives, programmes, and international exhibitions and conferences. The local community events include monthly book discussion events, online databases trainings, lectures, and children's events.
QNL recognises that children are the leaders of the future. They need to be equipped with the necessary resources, knowledge, and skills to preserve the nation's heritage, while driving their community into the future. Therefore, QNL provides access to a wealth of digital resources for young people through its children and teen collections.
