UAE- Arab League congratulates Sheikha Fatima on Emirati Women's Day

Cairo 27th August 2015 (WAM)The Arab League has congratulated H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU) Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood on the occasion of the 1st Emirati Women's Day observed on 28th August.

The date marks the anniversary of the creation of the General Women's Union (GWU) in 1975 and is considered a chance to celebrate the achievements of Emirati women since the group was founded.

In a statement issued by the Women Family and Childhood Department the pan-Arab organisation acknowledged the significance of the day to reflect on the achievements and gains made by the GWU whose contributions have propelled women to a prestigious level in the UAE community.

The statement added that day demonstrated the UAE leadership's will to advance women's causes and enhance the vital role of the GWU in the development and empowerment of Emirati and Arab women.

The Arab League's statement also hailed Sheikha Fatima's unflinching support for women's issues at local Arab and regional levels and her persistent efforts to grant women their full political economic and social rights being a key partner in the process of development and nation-building.
