UAE- RAK hospital helps patient get rid of 1.25kg rare tumour

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)A rare tumour weighing 1.25kg was removed from the liver of female Emirati patient at the Shaikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah (SKSH-RAK) recently.

The 15cm tumour was removed from the gall bladder and liver of the 41-year-old patient. Dr Kyung Kook Kim Surgical Oncology (Hepatobiliary) Consultant in SKSH-RAK said the patient visited the hospital suffering from sudden abdominal pain and acidity. After thorough CT and MRI scans and a biopsy it was found that the patient had a liver and gall bladder cancer which required immediate removal. Dr Kim emphasised that the patient is stable and will be discharged soon after completing the required tests and procedures.

The biggest problem is that patients come to the hospital very late he said. By the time they come to the hospital their tumors are so far advanced and have already spread to the neighboring tissue or to distant organs that they cannot be operated upon he added.
