Auditor in Dubai charged for asking Dh2.5m bribe

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)An auditor has been charged with bribery in the Court of First Instance for soliciting Dh2.5million from an investor for preparing a financial report in favour of him.

The audit expert at the Expertise and Dispute Settlement Department at the Ruler's Court identified as A.D was arrested from Al Muraqqabat.

The complainant a 59-year-old Lebanese businessman said in the investigation that the 43-year-old Egyptian suspect was assigned by the Public Prosecution as an auditor in a case he was involved.

"He was assigned to determine whether there had been any embezzlement following a financial dispute between me and my sponsor. He was to prepare a financial report and hand it over to the public prosecution".

In February 2014 the Emirati sponsor filed a case accusing the Lebanese and other employees at the company of embezzling Dh91million of the revenues.

"Since he was assigned to prepare a financial report about any possible embezzlement A.D has been calling me.

"In January this year he explained to me that he was going through a financial crisis".

A.D allegedly told the complainant that it would take him 2 or 3 years to complete the audit report.

"Then he said if I pay him Dh2.5million he would prepare the report in my favour" the complainant said. On February 25 the complainant informed the State Security about A.D's approaches.

The police provided the complainant Dh300000 and a tape recorder and asked him to meet the suspect.

He then met A.D at a cafe on March 3. A police captain said that they arrested A.D while he was sitting with two women at a cafe in Al Muraqqabat later that day.

"Before we started searching his car A.D. slashed his left wrist with a key. He kept saying 'I want to die let me die'" the officer told the prosecutor.

After giving him the necessary medical treatment he was taken to the State Security building.

The police managed to recover most of the Dh300000 the complainant handed over to the suspect.-
