Kuwait- Gulf States Share Security 'Checks' On Hajj Pilgrims

(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Gulf security authorities have received confidential information regarding possible attempts to be made by some terrorist and banned organizations to take advantage of the Hajj pilgrimage season this year to create confusion and carry out terrorist acts. In view of this, all GCC member states have agreed to carry out a background check of the Hajj pilgrims departing from their countries and ensure there are no security restrictions on them, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting informed sources.

They revealed that Kuwait's State Security Department ran a background check of the 6,000 Kuwaiti and expatriate Hajj pilgrims of this year, indicating that the Interior Ministry of Saudi Arabia has rejected 18 people including Kuwaitis. The sources affirmed that the State Security officers are continuing their investigation in this regard, declaring that the security authorities have succeeded in joint security coordination and exchange of information through the establishment of a joint operations room to monitor the pilgrimage season and maintain security round the clock.

They said, "Due to the current security situation of the Gulf region, security authorities of the Gulf countries have agreed to send the security file of each pilgrim to the Saudi security authorities and assist them in preventing any individual suspected of involvement in illegal acts in his own country".
