Qatar- Key services added to Foreign Ministry app

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Foreign Ministry has launched the second release of its official mobile applications developed to aid citizens travelling abroad.

The application was created as a reliable and real-time communications platform between citizens in Qatar and the ministry, especially in cases of emergencies.

It was launched for the first time last year.

One of the highlights of the application is the travel pre-registration service, which allows users to register and share their travel details through a secure connection with the ministry.

Another important service provided by the app is 'Request Assistance', where citizens can submit emergency requests in real time.

"This application signifies the ministry's commitment to providing the best services to engage with our citizens, especially when it comes to their safety abroad," said Dr Saif Al Kuwari, Director, Department of Information Systems & Technology at the ministry.

"We urge all citizens to make use of information and services provided in the app such as travel details to enable the ministry to reach them in case they require assistance."

The application also provides informational sections, such as contact information of Qatari missions abroad, accredited diplomatic missions in Qatar and visa requirements for Qataris travelling abroad and non-Qataris travelling to Qatar.

"The second release of the application has featured a complete redesign, adding new services and information that will prove useful to citizens in Qatar," said Al Kuwari.

Anyone can benefit from the available information in the app.

However, citizens have exclusive use of specific functions such as the request assistance function and the travel pre-registration.

The application is available on iOS, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile devices - search 'MOFA Qatar' on App Store, Google Play, BlackBerry World or Windows Store.

The app features services including travel pre-registration, which allows citizens to register their travel details; request assistance in case of emergencies; and attestation status check.

It also provides auxiliary services, such as currency exchange information, weather forecasts, and prayer times.

It provides contact details of Qatar's missions abroad and the accredited missions in Qatar, toll free numbers, visa and attestation information, and the ministry's news. One of the features of the application is 'Send Your Location'. It doesn't mean the application can track your location at anytime. The application only sends your location to the ministry when you request assistance through the 'send my location' option.

The application only sends your location to the ministry when you request assistance. However, depending on your phone, you can disable location services from your settings.

In the 'Qatar Missions Abroad' section, you'll find the numbers of all Qatari embassies and missions around the world.

You can also make free phone calls to the ministry, using its toll free service available in several countries; information about this services can be found in the 'Toll Free' section in the application.

Travel pre-registration allows the ministry to reach you in case of any emergencies in the country you are travelling to.

The application provides information on visa requirements for citizens travelling abroad and non-citizens who wish to travel to Qatar.
