Qatar 'has highest norms for organ transplants'


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Minister of Public Health H E Abdullah bin Khalid Al Qahtani has affirmed that the issuance of Law No. 15 of 2015 regulating transplant of human organs is within the framework of the state's determination to modernise health legislations.

He said the new law strengthens Qatar's efforts to regulate transplant of human organs according to strict instructions with application of the highest medical and ethical standards as a guarantee for all communities against trafficking in human organs crimes.

The law stipulates stiff penalties to ensure no irregularities would take place and provides clear mechanisms to ensure effective monitoring, the Minister added.

He explained said that a package of executive decisions that define conditions and procedures should be available in licensed hospitals to perform transplant of organs, tissues and cells.

The Minister said Qatar is a pioneer in providing integrated and advanced services in organ transplant with highest standards.

He praised citizens and residents who have registered to donate organs to help the initiative of organ donation through the national register to support efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in the field.
