Jordan- King, Russian president discuss ties, Mideast issues


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Tuesday, held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on means to cement ties between Jordan and Russia and a number of Middle East issues.

The two leaders said they are keen to strike closer cooperation between the two countries in various military, transport and tourism spheres. They also explored prospects for increasing the two-way trade exchange.

King Abdullah and Putin discussed joint projects between the two countries, especially in the nuclear energy domain. On Middle East developments, the two leaders discussed Syria, efforts to revive peacemaking between the Palestinians and Israelis in addition to counter-terror efforts.

Prior to the talks, the two leaders held a joint press conference in which they spoke a host of issues of concern to the two countries. His Majesty told reporters that he was happy to be in Russia and said the two countries maintain strong and important relations.

"We need to find a solution on Syria. Your role and the role of your country is vital in bringing together all the rival sides to a negotiating table towards a peace solution", the King said while addressing Middle East issues.

He also underlined Moscow's role in pushing peacemaking efforts between the Palestinians and Israelis forward to find a peaceful solution to this conflict.

The Russian president welcomed the King and said he was looking forward to discussing Jordanian-Russian ties and ways of boosting them.
