UAE- MBRF Oxford workshop to shed light on best international experiences in education employment and Arab Youth issues

Dubai 25th August 2015 (WAM): The global workshop the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF) will organise in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Oxford on September 3 in the St. Antony College University of Oxford will include a group of academics and specialists in the areas of education knowledge business and employment. The various sessions at the workshop will discuss education and employment opportunities for young people in the Arab region and highlight the outcome of the Third Arab Knowledge Report prepared jointly by MBRF and UNDP.

The workshop includes an opening session followed by four panel discussions. The opening session will be addressed by Prof Nick Rawlins Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Oxford; Jamal bin Huwaireb Managing Director of MBRF; and Yakup Beris UNDP Regional Programme Adviser for Arab States.

Jamal bin Huwaireb says the University of Oxford workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to consider the challenges facing the youth in the fields of education and employment in the Arab world. "It will be an opportunity for the Arab Knowledge Report to gain access to the best international practices in these areas as well as help shed light on the role of women in Arab societies and the challenges they face in education and employment opportunities" Bin Huwaireb added.

The first session of the workshop will highlight the Third Arab Knowledge Report. It will be addressed by Dr. Khalid Al Wazani from UNDP the lead author of 'Third Arab Knowledge Report' and feature an interactive session on the report and its implications for Arab youth.

The second session on 'Using Technology to Improve Education and Employment Opportunities' will be addressed by Dr. Nasir Hussain co-founder of Strategy Foresight Partnership. During the session Dr.Nick Chambers will describe the process of matching schools and volunteers from employers to help students make career choices while Dr. Kevin Dunseath of Isis Innovation at University of Oxford will explain how education can be connected to employability and employment.

The third session will present 'Examples of Successful Employment Creation in Europe and Beyond' in which Khalid M. Bin Hadi Al Yafei Senior Vice President Siemens UAE will speak on 'Creating opportunities - the German approach.' Then Prof. Andrew Godley Head of the School of Leadership Organisations and Behaviour at Henley Business School University of Reading will look at 'Entrepreneurship-creating careers' while Dr. Dana Brown of Said Business School will present the topic 'Business education to support employment chances'.

The fourth session on 'Way forward for Arab Youth in Education and Employment' will have Dr. Anthony Mann Director of Policy and Research at Education and Employers speaking on 'Lessons from research to improve links between education and employment opportunities'. The session will also include Dr. Serra Kirdar Life Fellow St Antony's College who will address the topic 'Women: 'Education and employment opportunities and challenges they face in the Arab region' and Tarek Osman author and political economist who will speak on 'The future for Arab Youth'.

The workshop in oxford follows those held in Jordan New York and Paris which highlighted the best international practices in the field of knowledge education and employment.
