11,200 pilgrims from Oman to perform Hajj this year: MARA


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) As many as 11200 pilgrims from Oman including expatriates will perform Hajj this year an official from the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs (MARA) has said. Registrations for the pilgrimage closed on August 24.

'The ministry has distributed Hajj permit cards to those organisers who have completed the registration process. Pilgrims should abide by rules specified by Saudi Arabia and MARA' an official from the ministry told Muscat Daily. 'All pilgrims must undergo medical tests and take the prescribed vaccines before leaving for the pilgrimage. They should also carry the microchipped permit cards that contain all details at all times so that authorities can assist them better in case of emergencies.'

He said the ministry is not involved in regulating Hajj package tariffs. 'We do not regulate the package costs and official things related to visa. The travel operators take care of it. The last date for pilgrims flying into Saudi Arabia is September 18. Those driving down have till September 14 to arrive' the official said.

Hajj pilgrims will be able to experience the new international airport in Saudi Arabia that opened recently. The airport has been built at a cost of US$1.2bn and has an annual passenger capacity of 8mn. It has six external terminals located within close proximity of the Hajj terminal with a total area of 10000sq m and a seating capacity of 4000.

The airport also features advanced passenger and baggage conveyance services with 36 elevators 28 escalators and 23 conveyor belts.
