(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Mohammed Al-Duaij, postponed until Sept 1 the hearing on Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque bombing case for final argument. The attack left behind a large number of victims - both citizens and residents; with 29 people, including seven women, suspected of involvement. In Tuesday's session, the court opened a report from the Public Prosecution and the lawyer for one of the female suspects looked into it.
According to the report, the fingerprints of a female suspect were found on the back of a damaged white Samsung phone. Lawyer for the male suspect, Attorney Omar Al-Jena'e, disclosed that he suspected his client is suffering from a psychological disorder when he talked to him earlier.
He asked the court to refer his client to the Psychiatry Hospital to examine his mental state. He explained he noticed indicators of his client's psychological condition in the previous session when the latter expressed hostility towards society.
Victim
He pointed out his client is the 'victim' of extremist ideology, so the country must be held responsible for its failure to uproot this ideology from the very beginning. He claimed a preacher has been recruiting youths to participate in jihad (holy war). He asserted that if DAESH does not know the place it targets, is it reasonable to give instructions to one of the suspects to select the place to bomb despite the fact that the latter joined the organization only recently? He said Bedouns are facing big financial, economic and social problems, so the terrorist and extremist organizations entice these people by offering them money.
On the other hand, Attorney Saud Al-Enezi who represented another suspect in court stressed that the government must bear the responsibility for the explosion, particularly since it received a threat from an exterior authority and the country did not perform its duty by conducting a thorough investigation to determine how serious the threat is.
Forced
He affirmed there is no evidence against his client, alleging the State Security officers forced his client to confess in front of the Public Prosecution. He said client was implicated in the case as he purportedly thanked Allah for the bombing. He added the officer in charge of the case confirmed that the suspect did not play any role in the bombing as he expressed gratitude to Allah inside the jail. He then asked the court to acquit his client considering the absence of incriminating evidence against him.
Meanwhile, Attorney Zaid Al-Enezi, lawyer for another suspect, told the court that his client was in prison during the attack and he was later taken from his cell to the State Security Department. He also pointed out that the documents did not include a warrant from the Public Prosecution to arrest his client, while the officer in charge of the case did not present any proof against his client.
He urged the officer in charge of the case and the Public Prosecution to determine how the explosive belt entered the country, emphasizing the need to conduct an intensive investigation of the customs employees. He went on to say that Syria is a land of war and the government announced providing aid and donations to the Syrian nation so his client is involved in collecting donations for Syria. He asked the court to acquit his client.
Furthermore, Attorney Mohammed Al-Adwani, who defended two suspects in court, stressed that his clients had no role in the case, indicating they are just relatives of one of the suspects.
Also, Attorney Faisal Buhaliba, who represented three suspects, argued that one of them merely dropped another suspect in Salmiya and he did not know anything about the bombing plot. He added his two other clients should not be implicated in the case as the officer in charge did not present proof against them.
Moreover, Attorney Dr Faheed Al- Dehani argued his client is different from other defendants as he just joined a phone group chat which included another suspect who sent a picture of a dialogue with his brother who joined DAESH in Syria.
The picture shows that the brother wished his DAESH member brother will be the one carry out the bombing operation to obtain martyrdom. He said his client immediately left the group and he has no relation to the main suspect. He further clarified that his client is keen on delivering religious sermons under the supervision of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.
Finally, Attorney Thamir Al-Jad'e appeared in court with the father of one of the defendants. The father said the Special Forces came to his house at dawn Saturday and arrested his son who was sleeping, stressing his son is not involved in the case and they rejected the ideology, since they are Shiites. He disclosed one of the suspects asked his son to take his car because he had a wedding to attend as he does not have a car.
The father went on to say that he was detained for 10 days in the State Security Department with his sons and his daughter was also subjected to interrogation. The court asked him about the confession of a suspect that his second son who is fighting in Syria asked the defendant to give his car to the main suspect and the father said this is not true, pointing out his son is outside the country but they do not know where he is.
Meanwhile, renovation of the blastdamaged Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque in Al- Sawaber district will last for about six months from the commence work date, said Ministry of Public Works Undersecretary Awatef Al-Ghunaim on Tuesday. The ministry addressed the Central Tenders Committee, recommending approval of companies that bid the lowest price for the rehabilitation of the mosque project, she said, noting that eight specialized companies have been invited for the project. Five companies made special offers for the project and a technical committee was formed to study these bids for choosing one, she said.
In other news, Interior Ministry has opened an investigation of two leaders of a security department for lifting the deportation order against a GCC national who's involved in criminal cases. The suspect happens to be the relative of a suspect in Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque bombing incident, reports Al-Qabas daily.
A security source said the State Security Service had arrested a GCC national identified as M.J, a relative of a person accused in the terrorist attack on Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque, and during investigations, they discovered he was convicted of several offenses and deported from Kuwait on three occasions, and still managed to enter the country. Investigations revealed his criminal record, which indicated involvement in several robbery cases and impersonation of police.
According to the source, detectives uncovered after checking the computers that crimes committed by the suspect were attributed to another person named Abdul Illah, and further investigations revealed that he entered Kuwait on July 13 and exited four times, but the time difference between his entry and departure was no more than six minutes, which arouses suspicion and proves manipulation in the entry and exit stamps at the border posts. The source reiterated the accused is related to a GCC national who works in the Secretariat of a senior officer who has been subjected to interrogation and the suspect is currently serving a sentence for robbing an Indian of KD 1,750 in Shuwaikh area.
