Google to launch 'Street View'


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Pursuant to the utmost interest of Google company on incorporating Qatar to the countries utilising the techniques of displaying panoramic road view images entitled 'Street View', Anthony McLaughlin, in charge of Google 'Street View' for Europe and the Middle East, visited Doha GIS Centre.

He discussed with officials of the Ministry of Municipality & Urban Planning the possibility of signing an agreement authorising the company for imaging the streets, utilising the techniques, to be accessible through Internet applications and smart mobile phones. Google has photographed Museum of Islamic Art using this technique.

The centre has been authorised to negotiate with Google and enter into an agreement on implementation of the project by a committee of government entities, provided that the company shall abide by applicable regulations and technical requirements.

A memorandum of understanding on requirements has been signed and based on it, Google will acquire approvals from authorities prior to commencing survey of the streets and production of panoramic images.

The ministry has also signed an MoU with Hare company, formerly known as Navteq for producing three-dimensional images for the streets and abutting buildings with laser imaging technology, as the agreement provides for the right of the ministry to obtain data after completion of its production and enabling accessibility to government agencies associated with GIS network.
