Qatar- Summer festival boosts sales at many outlets

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The ongoing Qatar Summer Festival (QSF) which is heading towards an exciting close, has pushed up sales at participating shopping complexes.

A glimpse about enhanced sales figures can be had from the fact that so far more than 70,000 raffle entries for various prizes on offer have been filled up and submitted by shoppers at various outlets.

Some 33,000 raffle entries for the QSF prizes were submitted in the first week of the festival itself, and the number went up to 40,000 in the second week.

"We hope that this number would go up further in the third and the fourth week," said Faisal Al Mohannadi, Director of PR and Communications at Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA).

QTA is the organiser of the summer festival and the two Eid festival events as well. After QSF concludes by month-end, the QTA will begin preparing to hold Eid Al Adha Festival.

Al Mohannadi said that until August 18 the Entertainment City had witnessed a turnout of some 163,000 visitors, far more than the number of visitors to last year's event (QSF).

He said that the participating shopping outlets have confirmed that their sales were up due to the raffle prizes on offer as part of the QSF.

The official said that the songs festival slated to be held tomorrow and the day after would likely boost visitor turnout massively.

The QTA has been encouraging local talent. Theatre shows were held as part of Eid Al Fitr festival recently in a bid to encourage Qatari artistes, he said.

As for a much-publicised standup comedy show which promises to be a runaway hit, another QTA official said that the ticket sale target is 1,200 of all classes.

Half the number of tickets have already been sold and experience suggests that as such shows approach near, ticket sales pick up very fast, he said.

Some hotels are also making promotional offers as part of the QSF and visitors from GCC states such as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are taking benefit.

For example, according to Al Sharq, as part of its tourism promotion plans, the Torch Hotel is offering one night free for every two nights booked.

The hotel has also slashed its room tariff to QR850 to QR950 per day (down from the normal tariff) as part of the promotion and occupancy is 100 percent.

On top of it, breakfast is free and there are no charges for children below six years of age, a hotel official told the daily.
