Kuwait- Info Minister Reiterates State Support To The Tourism Industry

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah on Monday reaffirmed the state's support to the tourism industry to promote the "civilized and democratic meanings" of Kuwait.

The industry relies mainly on the cultural and civilization heritage, tangible and intangible, that has to be highlighted through an integrated system, the minister told a meeting for the tourism sector at the Information Ministry. Sheikh Salman called for a strategy to draw up programs and activities for promoting domestic tourism, pointing to various strategic and development projects being carried out nationwide.

These include developing the Kuwait Airways, the national carrier, to fulfil the expectations of domestic and foreign tourist, he said. The minister referred to a quantum shift at the Tourist Enterprises Company to enhance its role for supporting the industry. In addition, work is underway to develop the standing committee for national celebrations in a bid to enhance Kuwait status as a tourist destination. He urged making the best of others' experience on the Arab, regional and international levels in a way that copes with "our customs, traditions and conservative society." Minister Sheikh Salman discussed during the meeting strategic issues for upgrading the ministry's tourist sector, reviewing relevant studies prepared in coordination with UN and a leading international consultancy house. Members of the sector were asked to prepare a tourist agenda to be announced in January 2016, calling for reactivating the role by the civil society and focusing on tourism conferences.

The minister noted that the sector would take part in Expo Milano 2015 in October with an event to boost tourism in Kuwait.
