Kuwait- 'Violent Behaviour Prevalent In Large Number Of Students'

(MENAFN- Arab Times) According to a study on violence conducted by Dr Abdulrahman Al-Ahmad from the Social Guidance Department of Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, 36.6 percent of Kuwaiti students have an inclination towards violence, reports Al- Seyassah daily. The study revealed that Jahra and Farwaniya governorates have the highest number of cases of violence.

Dr Al-Ahmad conducted the study on 1,200 random students and covered different behavioral aspects and phenomena that provoke violence in youths or attract them to it. The study claimed that certain terms or words used among the youths within the campuses provoke violence in them.

Students also display violent behaviors when they face injustice and inequality or when academic decisions contrary to their demands and needs are issued. Regarding the reasons behind the spread of violence among the youths, lack of concern towards youths is one of the major reasons behind the violent attitude among the youths because the concerned institutions do not play their role efficiently towards the youths and the latter have to depend on 'wasta' due to weak application of law on outlaws and staunch supporters of religious doctrines.

Another major reason is the tribal belongingness of the students, which is the main cause for the high number of cases of violence in Jahra and Farwaniya governorates. In addition, students whose parents are illiterate tend to be more violent than the others.

The study suggested the formation of a national committee in the Cabinet for studying the phenomenon of violence in the society, adding that specialists, psychologists, economic experts, religious preachers and professors in the field of media and security should be a part of this committee.
