On ground report from Aden to boost UAE's relief efforts


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has formed a team to conduct a field survey and prepare a database of the eight districts in Aden.

The survey aims to calculate the number of the province's inhabitants and determine the needs of each family in preparation for the first phase of distribution of first-aid relief.

Hassan Al Jesmi ERC's Director in Yemen said the survey's statistics will be updated on a daily basis. The survey will include data about the number of family members ages genders and the number of special-needs citizens.

He explained that the field survey will be conducted over a period of several months.

He pointed out that the list of inhabitants' names will be corroborated through identification documents such as passport driving licence birth certificate etc.

He said the data will be confirmed through officials such as imams and accredited authorities.

The second phase will focus on healthcare aid especially for women and children.

The survey team consists of 80 men and women from Aden. The "individuals have been chosen according to their competence and experience in carrying out census surveys" said Al Jesmi.

UAE ship containing relief reaches Yemen

A UAE relief ship carrying 3000 tonnes of food and aid supplies has arrived in Aden as part of the country's ongoing humanitarian efforts in Yemen.

The assistance which was launched by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation is one of the daily urgent relief efforts being implemented by UAE organisations.

The ERC which is also carrying out urgent relief efforts in Aden on Sunday announced plans to expand its reach to help more people in other provinces of the country.

The UAE aid programmes in Yemen are in implementation of the directives of the President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; and the follow up of Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the ERC Board.

Fahad Abdul Rahman bin Sultan ERC deputy secretary-general said health and education projects are being given top priority as the back-to-school season approaches as part of efforts to restore education in Aden and other provinces.

The deputy secretary-general said 153 schools and kindergartens will be equipped with necessary supplies including education kits to help them prepare for the school season.

The ERC will also support universities and colleges at a later stage.

In addition hospitals in Aden and surrounding areas will be provided with unlimited access to primary health care and urgent medical supplies.
