Omani entrepreneur wins international award

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Renowned Omani entrepreneur and businessman Qais al Khonji has been named a winner of the International Entrepreneur Awards 2015 by London-based Business Worldwide magazine.

The awards seek to identify and honour businessmen and women from global industry who exemplify the spirit of entrepreneurship.

'It is an important big step in my entrepreneurial career and would definitely open doors

for me beyond the local border/community' said Khonji who was named 'Entrepreneur of the Year - Oman'.

According to information on the Business Worldwide website the awards recognise entrepreneurs for their ingenuity perseverance and positive impact on the community. 'Our intention is to give a worthy individual the recognition he/she deserves as well as to use their example to inspire aspiring entrepreneurs to achieve similar success in their pursuit for expansion.'

Khonji is the first Omani to bag this honour.

He said 'There are many ways to represent the country. Being the first Omani entrepreneur to win a global award is a proud moment which drives me to achieve more. I do have a dream to cross the border when it comes to business one day. This award might open the door for such a step in the near future.'

Khonji hoped his achievement would encourage more fellow Omani entrepreneurs to aim for similar global recognition. 'I have been advocating for the inclusion of entrepreneurship as part of school learning across the sultanate. And I would use this achievement in every positive way to emphasise what I believe in.'

Khonji is the founder of Qais United Enterprises Trading Genesis International LLC and Genesis Projects and Investments LLC. He also serves on the boards of a number of Omani companies and is known for assisting young Omanis in overcoming hurdles in starting small businesses in the country.

On concerns over falling oil prices and their impact on the Omani economy Khonji said 'There are some businesses that are not affected by the drop in oil prices. My message to young aspiring entrepreneurs would be to focus on the services sector rather than on manufacturing. If your product is not a brand you will struggle. So the chances of success in services are higher.'
