Paris condemns terror attack against Somali training camp


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) France on Monday condemned an attack on August 22 against a Somali military training camp and police outpost in the eastern city of Kismayo, where about 20 military personnel and civilians were killed and 30 more were wounded in the operation.
The attack is believed to have been carried out by the Islamist extremist group "Al-Shebab" which has been seeking to overthrow the Somali government for serveral years.
France reiterated its support for the Somali authorities and the African Union (UA) mission that has deployed thousands of troops to prop up the government of Mogadishu.
"We send our condolences to the families of the victims," a French Foreign Ministry statement said on Monday.
"Those responsible for these acts must answer in front of the courts," it added.
"France praises the action of those who are working for peace and security in Somalia, in particular the African Union mission."
