France condemns ISIL for destruction of Palmyra cultural heritage

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) France strongly condemned Monday the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) for its "cultural destruction" carried out in Syria and Iraq and most recently for destroying of the Baalshameen Temple in Palmyra in Syria.
The Baalshameen Temple is classified by UNESCO as one of the treasures of the ancient city of Palmyra and part of the world's cultural heritage.
"The destruction committed by Daash (ISIL) against the major historic and religious sites in Syria and Iraq confirms the willingness of this terrorist group to annihilate the thousands-year-old cultural diversity of the Middle East," the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Paris affirmed that "France is committed to preserving this" and would work in that direction.
