KFA To Set 23rd Gulf Cup Tourney Date

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Kuwait Football Association (KFA) called for a special meeting with the permanent committee of the GCC associations' chiefs to study a decision to hold the 23rd edition of the Gulf Cup of Nations on Sept 22nd as specified before.

KFA said in a press statement on Sunday that holding the tournament as previously agreed upon came after the Public Authority for Youth and Sports (PAYS) confirmed the readiness of sporting venues to accommodate this sporting event.

Yesterday, PAYS affirmed in a press statement that it was working on preparing Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium, Kuwait Sporting Club and other soccer fields to house this tourney and to provide spaces for participating teams to receive their training.

Last week, President of KFA Sheikh Talal Al-Fahad announced in a press conference that the tournament would be held as previously scheduled once the other participating countries agree.

Meanwhile, Director of voluntary work at the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs Fuad Bu-Shihri lauded, on Sunday, efforts made by young volunteers to make the 23rd Gulf Cup of Nations a "success." Directing youth energy and time toward helping in organizing the Gulf soccer tournament is the Ministry's way of supporting Kuwait Football Association in holding a sporting event of such regional magnitude.

He added that the anticipated 23rd Gulf Cup of Nations will be closely watched by people from all of the Gulf nations, expressing his faith in the volunteers' efforts to make this event "successful."
