Abu Dhabi's juveniles get a second chance with new skills


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has launched an initiative to rehabilitate juvenile offenders by keeping them busy and teaching them new skills.

The 'Summer Voyage' programme will be overseen by the Juvenile Welfare and Protection Department at the General Directorate of Community Protection and Crime Prevention.

Colonel Mohammed Al Hosani Head of the department said the initiative features a number of training programmes conducted by specialists social workers and psychologists which encourage reformed juvenile offenders to think creatively and work together to generate ideas.

What the scheme covers

The programme includes etiquette training first aid skills evacuation and rescue drills and a variety of sports heritage health and cultural activities.

"We are committed to equipping these youth with essential sciences and knowledge that will enable them to effectively engage with their peers in the community" Colonel Al Hosani said.

"The department's Juvenile Care Centre endeavours to rehabilitate juvenile delinquents through specialised and advanced programmes that are designed to develop positive behaviour."

The aim is to help reformed juvenile offenders get accepted in society as upright and qualified individuals said Colonel Al Hosani.
